Mapping Coastal Flood Susceptible Areas Using Shannon’s Entropy Model: The Case of Muscat Governorate, Oman

Floods are among the most common natural hazards around world. Mapping and evaluating potential flood essential for risk management mitigation strategies, particularly in coastal areas. Several factors play significant roles flooding recognizing role of these flood-related may enhance disaster prediction strategies. This study focuses on using Shannon’s entropy model to predict seven causing floods Governorate Muscat, Sultanate Oman, mapping flood-prone The selected (including ground elevation, slope degree, hydrologic soil group (HSG), land use, distance from coast, wadi, road) were initially prepared categorized into classes based their contribution occurrence. In next step, was used determine weight each factor overall susceptibility. Finally, results previous two steps combined ArcGIS software produce final susceptibility index map that five zones. result indicated use HSG causative area, about 133.5 km2 extracted area is threatened by floods. outcomes this can provide decision-makers with information identifying risks enhancing adaptation For future work, it recommended evaluate reliability obtained comparing a real event, such as during cyclones Gonu Phet.
